Gross motor skills such as running, jumping, balance and ball skills are important physical skills that are required for your child to have success in everyday activities. Children need to develop a range of physical abilities including core stability, strength, balance, coordination and motor planning in order to achieve success with gross motor skills.
Gross motor programs aim to build physical ability and confidence with movement so that children can have success in participating in everyday childhood activities such as climbing the playground at school, joining the local soccer team, swimming in the school carnival, riding a bike at the local park.
Children require a certain level of gross motor skill ability to be able to participate in sporting programs and teams such as soccer, tennis, gymnastics, karate and swimming. Often children who have difficulty with gross motor skills may avoid participation in physical activity and sports which leads to reduced social opportunities as well as continued delays in physical development.

KidzPlay Therapy Physiotherapists are uniquely qualified to provide 1:1 intervention for gross motor development through fun and engaging gross motor programs. All programs are individualised to best support the child’s needs and can be tailored towards particular sports specific focus depending on the child’s interest areas and goals.
